Pickett, Fritz Announce Equipment Grant for SCCTC

November 18, 2020

HARRISBURG – To better prepare students for a family-sustaining career, Susquehanna County Career and Technology Center (SCCTC) today was awarded a state grant to purchase training equipment, according to Reps. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Susquehanna/Sullivan) and Jonathan Fritz (R-Susquehanna/Wayne).

The $10,095 grant will go toward equipment aligned with the needs of local employers for use in career and technical education programs approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) and to provide hands-on training to students in those programs.

“SCCTC does a wonderful job preparing students for successful careers right here at home and I am pleased it is receiving some of the funding to enhance its job-training programs,” said Pickett. “These grants are helping career and technical schools statewide meet the growing demand for skilled workers.”

“Our career and technical schools are a valued asset to our communities as they offer a path to vital job opportunities and empower the workforce.” said Fritz. “These grants make it possible for schools to enhance their education programs, improve career readiness and give students the tools for a successful future.”

PDE awarded nearly $1.2 million in competitive grants to 32 career and technical schools and two school districts for the purchase of new equipment aligned to training students in high-demand occupations. Each grant must be matched dollar-for-dollar from a local source such as local school funds or contributions from business and industry partners.
