Regional Workforce Development Board Receives State Funding, Says Pickett
January 16, 2020
HARRISBURG – The Northern Tier Workforce Development Board (NTWDB) has been awarded $131,006 in state funding to help businesses and school districts work together to better prepare students for in-demand careers in the region, according to Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Sullivan/Susquehanna).
“This grant will allow the board’s extremely successful program to continue for a sixth year,” said Pickett. “It will expand services to include increased connections to work-based learning opportunities, more connections to STEM activities and increased parental involvement.”
The NTWDB is made up of executives from area businesses, labor organizations, adult education and literacy, higher education, economic and community development, and social services who oversee the Northern Tier region’s job training and placement programs.
The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry awarded more than $2.4 million for Business-Education Partnership grants to 19 local workforce development boards across the Commonwealth.
The partnerships will connect schools, employers and students to provide career-related experiences and opportunities through soft-skills development, internships, workplace shadowing and career mentoring, all with the goal of preparing students for good local jobs.
The Business-Education Partnership grants are funded at 100% through federal money made available from the Workforce Innovation and Opportunities Act.
