Pickett, Baker Announce $1.07 Million in State Grants for Maintenance Vehicles, Rescue Equipment in Wyoming County

WYOMING – Wyoming County has been approved for $1.07 million in state grant funding for new rescue equipment and multiple maintenance vehicles, Rep. Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Wyoming) and Sen. Lisa Baker (R-Luzerne/Pike/Susquehanna/Wayne/Wyoming).

“There are so many projects our local governments want to invest in to better their communities, but oftentimes, financial barriers make it far too difficult to make those purchases,” said Pickett. “I am pleased Sen. Baker and I can advocate on behalf of these projects to help Wyoming County secure state funding that benefits all residents.”

The grant awards, which come from statewide Local Share Accounts (LSA), are as follows:

• Factoryville Borough and Clinton Township Joint Municipal Sewer Authority: $77,045 for the purchase and upfitting of a 2026 Dodge Ram 3500 4X4. This vehicle is essential for maintenance and emergency repairs to keep the sewer system functional for residents.
• Falls Township: $238,447 to purchase a new township tractor with boom, flail chopper and mower to maintain the township road system and complete other construction projects. This equipment is critical to ensure public safety when traveling municipal roads.
• Noxen Township: $97,172 to purchase a Holmatro Pentheon Battery Rescue Tool System, Holmatro CORE SR 20 Gas Power Unit, and rescue accessories to replace Noxen Volunteer Fire Company's current rescue equipment, which is between 14-30 years old, obsolete and no longer repairable. The current rescue equipment severely limits the fire company's speed and mobility while responding to accidents across its coverage area. The purchase of updated equipment would improve their responsiveness to incidents.
• Overfield Township: $102,722 to purchase a Bobcat T76 T4 Compact Track Loader and Pequea T-200 Tilt Trailer. The township currently has an undersized backhoe which is unable to perform the required tasks which often requires costly rentals or borrowed equipment. This situation limits the township’s ability to maintain safe roads, respond quickly to emergencies and manage infrastructure efficiently. Acquiring the skid steer and trailer is essential to improving operations, reducing long-term costs, and ensuring the safety and reliability of township roads and amenities.
• Southeastern Wyoming County Council of Governments (SCOG): $235,172 to purchase maintenance equipment to be utilized in Eaton, Monroe, Northmoreland and Noxen townships. Currently the SCOG has to contract some of its projects out when it comes to the maintenance of the roadways with clearing ditches, placing pipes and smoothing out the roadway. The project consists of purchasing a new excavator and track loader.
• Tunkhannock Township: $226,785 to purchase a heavy-duty truck with a plow. The vehicle will be used for maintenance of streets and roads in the township. It will also be used to haul stone and other materials to project areas. The current vehicle is over 20 years-old and is in a dilapidated state. The project will improve the township's infrastructure and community wellbeing.
• Windham Township: $98,832 to purchase a skid steer to replace the use of contractors and a 2016 backhoe. The township will not need to outsource road clearing, erosion damage repair, drainage system maintenance, snow removal and general road maintenance year-round if it purchases the skit steer as associated equipment.

“These investments—totaling more than $1 million across multiple community projects—will strengthen local infrastructure, enhance public services and move critical initiatives forward,” Baker said. We appreciate the Commonwealth’s continued commitment to helping our communities grow, thrive, and deliver long term value to the people we serve.”

Local Share Account grants are funded through gaming revenues and are used to support economic development, community improvement and other projects that enhance quality of life for Pennsylvania residents.

The grants are approved by the Commonwealth Financing Authority, an independent agency responsible for administering these grants and other state investments that promote economic growth, infrastructure development and community revitalization throughout the Commonwealth.
